MAN in The Med

Steve Marsh - Sardignia

Back in the summer, when the weather was fine, your friend and mine, Steve Marsh, went on another island hopping trip out to Sardinia. May be it was best back in the summer with the nice weather rather than the terrible weather that Sardinia suffered a few weeks back. Marshy certainly got a cracking day when he was there and he also ended up finding a quiet street where the old MAN could have a relax while Marshy got the bike out, you can’t beat blue sea/sky as a back drop.

Steve Marsh - Sardinia

A normal Monday in the North West and Steve gets a call asking of he can load 5 tons of machinery, nothing to different about that, apart from it has to be delivered to Porto Torres, Sardinia. by the end of the week. Now as we all know when there is an express job worth doing, there is only one MAN for the job, that MAN is GB05 STE and its jockey Steve Marsh. So over to Huddesfield on Tuesday load up and then start heading South in the afternoon. Reaching Dover Tuesday late afternoon onto a ferry and onward to Genoa, Italy. Genoa was reached on Thursday afternoon ready to catch an evening sailing to Porto Torres. As always with these Mediterean ferry’s there is hardly room to swing the proverbial cat!!

Friday morning its off the boat at Porto Torres and delivery was to the same town, so all done and tipped at the refinery by lunch time. Really I’m sure it was a harder job than it sounds but then Marshy is such an old hand at the job it probably comes that easy these days. So as a reward in the life of the international lorry driver, Marshy gets to spend the rest of the day lounging about in Sardinia, this is when all good drivers get there push bike out and go exploring.

Back on the boat to Genoa on Friday night and get a few hours up the road in Italy before the weekend driving ban came into force in Italy. So from Genoa its up to Trento to park up for the rest of the weekend ready for a reload on Monday morning. Reloaded Monday and that’s it, run back to Blighty, funnily enough on this trip it was back to the start as the reload was bound for Huddersfield.

The bumper on the little MAN may be showing her age a little, but she still clocks up similar mileage each week to those international drivers with bigger trucks carrying more weight. It may be a small truck but it definitely rolls like a big truck, in fact it probably goes to more places than the bigger ones due to its size. Any way I’m getting all romantic, so thanks again to Mr marsh for his photos and I hope those of you who are also fans of the Marsh MAN have enjoyed a quick trip to the Med. Hopefully their wont be such a long wait for the next trip with GB05 STE……hey steve??

Moldovan Horsepower

20131123-171816.jpg

Top international Owner Driver Chris Mutch took his little DAF 55 on a trip to Romania and Moldova earlier this year. Although the little DAF is a reliable old girl I don’t think Chris realised he would need any extra horsepower to get himself unloaded. Who needs a forklift and a pallet when a horse and cart will do the trick! Great photos of how to offload a load of boxes Moldovan style. I hope Chris will start sending a few more pics, but these are a great start to a blogging career!! Thanks Chris (& Marshy!).

New Scania T560

20131116-125652.jpg

Yes she is an awesome looking beastie. Quite a lot of you would have seen it about perhaps on websites for sale or at some shows this year. Scanlast from Sweden have created a rather eye-wateringly good brand new Tcab Scania. Yes it really is new and the current sale price will reflect that, although when I asked Scanlasts Leif Loden he wouldn’t give me a price but he did hint that it wouldn’t be as much as the €200,000+ that it cost to build. The chassis and engine is brand new from the factory and the cab and bonnet are added to it, to make a new truck. When will Scania realise that they should still make a bonneted truck?!

If I had the money I don’t think I’d find much better at the moment, after all looking at the general truck fashions at Truckstar Festival this year, it seems that Highline Scania trucks are the way forward. You have to admit that the Highline really suits a 6×2 Torpedo. Your man Leif at Scanlast said he was a little frustrated that he hadn’t sold it yet but I bet secretly he is quite happy with it sitting at his garage for now! Anyway I best get off and check to see if I won last nights £80,000,000 EuroMillions jackpot!! Keep an eye out for next years Longline project from Scanlast too.

Jean-Claude Volvo Damme

Once again Volvo Trucks have pulled out all the stops, to show the world just how good the new technology in the new truck range is. Before we had the tight rope between the trucks and the bull run to name a few, but this time it’s a well know actor doing the splits on the wing mirrors of two reversing Volvo FM’s. How they got JCVD to be involved is anyone’s guess but you have to admit that these stunts by Volvo are becoming pretty impressive. The video above is pre-stunt build up, while the video below is the stunt in full……..I’m not sure if JCVD is an optional extra on your new Volvo but I’m guessing he’ll be pretty split between you and the next customer anyway!

Stop the Pigeon, Stop the Pigeon (Transporter!)

AV52 KGU - Mercedes Atego (80)

I WANT TO FIND MY ATEGO!!! I know she’s still out there but she seems to be the new Lord Lucan, she’s out there but I just can’t catch up with her! You’d think that if she is still in a half decent condition she’d be easy to spot especially in her new guise, reportedly now a pigeon carrier. How do I know? well 2 top spotters say they have seen her carrying the racing birds. The bizarre thing is that trying to find pigeon carrying companies is proving to be a little tricky. You’d think their would be facebook pages, websites and everything but it doesn’t appear so. There must be plenty of people who have seen the Atego out and about carrying our feathered friends to the start line.

Colltex Atego

The last photo of her was this one parked in a High Street doing charity work for Colltex. This was way back in 2009 so I hope she is still in good order. I guess that as she is carrying pigeons she will have had a tidy up and perhaps be a bit shiny again. What I need you lot to do is clap eyes on her and send me any pics you can get out and about, or if your that way inclined and your involved in pigeon racing circles can you tell me who now owns her. I think there are only a few firms pulling the birds, so surely it shouldn’t be too difficult to track her down. I reckon it might now be on a private plate as the DVLA vehicle search doesn’t bring up any details.

AV52 KGU - Mercedes Atego (78a)

If you spot the Atego and its safe, please take and send me a photo ben@truckblog.co.uk
If your into pigeons please tell me who owns the Atego now.

All help of course will be much appreciated and it gives you some thing to do while your driving about next week!

Parkers ‘Orse Box

20131029-211540.jpg

Yes a Volvo blog! I work in a small town in the sleepy Suffolk countryside about 10 miles from the centre of Ipswich, not exactly the best place for truck spotting. Top international owner driver Matt Campbell (him with the Rizzla blue DAF) was loading for us in Hadleigh today, well I thought he was but actually he was at the burger van.

So a burger van in little ol’ Hadleigh and who else should happen to be parked there?? That’s right John Parkers brand new Volvo FH Horsebox. Yea 100 yards from my office, but could I get out to see it? could I bugger. Phones went crazy and by the time I got out the bloomin ‘Orsebox had gone. I have seen it at the Retro Truck Show at Gaydon and it really is an awesome looking truck.

Parkers get about all over Europe and beyond and the new Volvo is no different, having already completed a trip to Libya. Well I think it might take me a few days to get over not seeing said truck on a working day but hopefully as they know where the burger van is perhaps they will be back another day?? If so let me know……
Thanks to Matt for the photos.

Half Size Scania??

20131020-155658.jpg

I saw this photo on the interbookfaceweb and had to do a double take! Looks like a half size Scania to me from South America. Someone out there knows more or perhaps you know the man in the photo?? We need to find out more, does it work? Is it built from scratch or on a small chassis of some sort? It looks awesome and just proves that Scania could make a mini artic!! All info can be emailed or left as a comment below, over to you…….

Well Stuck Scania

20131015-213855.jpg

Or should that be well smart Scania?! This comes from Neil from Northampton, or should I say Neil with the green and yellow trucks, or should I just say Neil Rogers. Luckily at work we deal with EM Rogers Transport, usually giving them exports to France or Italy or them giving us Italian imports. Every now and then Neil emails over a real gem (to be honest they are all real gems!) like this gorgeously hard worked Patrick Scania 141.

Impressive spec, it’s LHD, must be the euro spec cab as its got the little window and mirror on the passenger door, roof tack and ladder, Scandinavian 4 spot bumper, little fuel tank perhaps to be filled from the trailer belly tank?? Anyway forget all that there are a few stickers on the truck too. What’s the 1978/1878 sticker behind the door and what are all the stickers on the windscreen under the window wipers??

Great photo, thank you Neil and thank you for letting me share it on here. One last thing for you truck spotters out there, I remember Neil saying that the real rare unphotographed truck on the fleet was a Renault Magnum wagon and drag. Has anyone got a photo of the rare French beast??!
