The Italian Job

I may have still been in short trousers in the late 80’s and early 90’s but I was already dreaming of Amy from the A-Team, Kylie Minogue, Anneka Rice, sorry, long distance trucking to Europe. Italia has always been a favored destination for the long distance Clara’s among us (sadly not me…yet) and it’s fair to say that one of the big parts of any trip to Italy is getting over the Alps. Which ever route you chose, whether it be Frejus or the Blanc, it was a regular route for hauliers from all European countries, although looking at these videos it would seem that every 3rd truck is from the Northampton area!

Luckily for us, whether you were sleep deprived and heading back to the UK or if you were too busy looking at Mrs Edwards in art class, sorry learning your times tables, thanks to the genius that is Pasquale Caccavale, lots of the goings on over the mountains has been recorded on what could have only been a fairly large video camera. You can loose hours looking through Pasquale’s YouTube channel, so I thought I’d share a few crackers to entice you in to watch more in your own time. One thing that genuinely does surprise me is the amount of British trucks cresting the mountains. I know its always been a popular destination but it seems that Pasquale must have know when the brits were coming. I guess it was regular days depending on which way you were heading and what end of the week it was, but still. There are many more videos to watch on the YouTube channel, CLICK HERE to go and see what other gems you can find. You might even find yourself, you never know! I love the Carisio video, its the who’s who of UK international Transport, must have been a convention on, nothing to do with the beer and local “services”…. Grazie Pasquale….

Merry Christmas Bloggers!!

Still the Best Big Rig Video

If you’ve never been to www.bigrigvideos.com or not found the YouTube channel then I’m close to banning you from TB! Everyone loves American trucks for one reason or another and in the land of 70mph+, no speed limiters and manual log books, we’d all love a few trips across the wide open spaces of the USA. To give you an idea on what you could be doing instead of sitting on the UK’s M6 through Birmingham or the Bruxelles ring road, please go and watch some of the Rolling CB interviews. Awesome trucks, great CB voices (All you Americans sound good on a CB speaker!) and great videos. Of them all I think this one is the best, a blue Peterbilt, with 8 inch exhausts that just sound as good as Foo Fighters at a hometown gig…… Frickin Awesome!!

TURN THE VOLUME UP!!!!

Transam Trucking Summer 2018 – P1

Video

It might not turn out to be the summer of love but I’m sure it will be trucking good one. My good buddy Mat Ireland is once again going to have a busy summer keeping all of our favourite music artists, moving about Europe, keeping us all entertained and giving us those summer songs and experiences we all crave during the long dark months of winter. Mat has promised me that he will keep the video diaries coming this year, so I thought it was only fair to post his first video for you all to see. I don’t need to say anything about it other than it seems a long way down down to the bottom deck of the Stena boat! I’ve been aboard many times but I have never been down to the bottom. Anyway it’s a cracking start to the season Mat, so please keep them coming……sorry about the plonker you met in Colchester on your way to Harwich.

My Best Truck of 2014

IMG_0915.JPG
For me this is the best truck I have seen in 2014. It might not be the newest, it might not be most practical for most of Europe and it certainly won’t be everyones taste but for me, spot on.

If you live in the UK and haven’t been to one I strongly advise that you make 2015 your first trip to a European truck show, the standard of trucks is amazing. I can’t deny that the trucks here in the UK are getting better and better but the Europeans just seem to have it right, they all look good. To me the best trucks have always been out of reach of what I could afford or achieve and the T560 is no different. We all joke about winning the lottery but a Tcab would be very close to the top of my list. It’s blue, it’s got two sets of pipes, it’s got a subtle custom interior and enough lights to make it look good but not over the top. As with anything I would make a few subtle changes as I’d want to put my mark on it.

2014 has seen a big rise in the blogs popularity through all mediums, the Facebook page, twitter and the good old fashioned http://www.truckblog.co.uk website. I’m not going to link to any of those this time round as I’m sure you all could do with a break from the ruthless links and plugs for the blog. I have no idea where the blog will be in another 12 months, hopefully you’ll all still send me stuff, photos, info and the odd piece of trucking memorabilia to decorate TBHQ and I’ll keep bugging the TV companies in the vague hope they’ll see that we need Truckblog TV!

Hopefully I’ll be visiting, Truckfest Peterborough, Crowfield Truck Rally, Gathering of the Griffin, Retro Truck Show at Gaydon, more than likely (and hopefully) Truckstar Festival at Assen as my foreign trip, although I have heard on the grapevine that there is quite a convoy of English motors heading to the International Trucker & Country Show held at Interlaken, CH. I have always wanted to go James?? Finally if the offer is still there then I might just make it to Belfast too.

Anyway thank you for following and thank you for making the blog what it is, without your contributions I’m sure you’d all be bored silly of 143’s, MAN TGL LX’s and Mercedes-Benz photos! As we all do secretly say now and again Keep on Trucking!

Big Rig Videos – New Vids!

For those of us on the more regulated side of the pond, we can only dream of Big Pete’s, K’Whoppers, Bulldog Macks (with or without a can on the back!) and the like, we have to put up with our length regulated, cab-over trucks (for most of us). If any of you are anything like me then I long to go back to the States now I’ve got other the need to go to Disneyland, I’d rather go to Florida to meet up with man behind the camera and CB interviews of Big Rig Videos, Christopher. I love just watching trucks rolling along the motorway as it is, but Big Rig Videos brings us all the trucks and big rig from the US, well all those that and trucking up and down Florida on their way to and from where ever. For example the big orange Peterbilt from Fox Trucking above is on a fairly decent length trip from Denver, Colorado down to Miami, Florida. That’s just over 2,000 miles and something like 8 states, for comparison, it’s virtually the same distance as Manchester, England to Istanbul, Turkey.

As its Sunday, then why not get the roast dinner out the way, then put your feet up and spend an hour or so enjoying some of the videos on the Big Rig Videos YouTube Channel. Well worth the time I can tell you. The Gold Digga Pete is another quality looking truck that has been loved and cared for by its owner and lavished with all kinds of custom parts and paint work. The HD quality of the videos makes them all the more enjoyable as does the odd burble of American muscle, listen to the Caterpillar engine purring away in the first 30 seconds of the video above, just awesome! Please make sure you check Big Rig Videos out at some point;

Last but not least, I will put up a video I have put on the blog before, but for me it is one of the best looking Amercian rigs I have seen. Plain and simple and in a lovely deep purple colour, the only way the video could have been slightly better, would have been catching the rig loaded, but you can’t have everything. Keep on trucking – 10-4 over and out!!

Big Rig Videos

The wife often asks why I spend ages just looking at trucks. “What is it your actually looking at?” she asks. “No idea” I reply, “Its just, its just…….”, I can never put it into words, so instead of words, watch the above video and I think it just sums up what I’m looking at. Just watch it and tell me your not impressed with this gorgeous truck rolling along, quietly on its mission to its next job.

This video is filmed by Big Rig Videos in the US of A, the man behind the camera is Christopher E. Fiffie an ex US truck driver who’s goal is “to make entertaining and educational videos about the professional drivers and the equipment they run across America” to quote the website. The premise behind the videos is a CB interview, asking the drivers about their trucks, what the specs are and what they get up too. The 2003 Kenworth W900 above is a great video. The big K Whopper is a real stunner and for us Brits the voice over the CB is typical US Convoy-esque type voice, that tells you all about the truck and his families own truck accessories company, Life Time Nut Covers.

I can’t tell you enough how good the Big Rig Videos website or YouTube Channel is. Just watching these big rigs rolling along makes me smile. There is still very much something about American trucks that keeps me wishing I had taken the plunge when I was younger and taken the job I was offered with a small operator in Oklahoma. Any way I digress, you have to visit and get watching these videos, there are 60 odd to get through and there is a bank holiday upon us.

Also for all of us in Europe there is a wicked CB interview with JJ Verweij and family from the Netherlands, while on their tour of the US and Canada in their Scania and caravan trailer

Jean-Claude Volvo Damme

Once again Volvo Trucks have pulled out all the stops, to show the world just how good the new technology in the new truck range is. Before we had the tight rope between the trucks and the bull run to name a few, but this time it’s a well know actor doing the splits on the wing mirrors of two reversing Volvo FM’s. How they got JCVD to be involved is anyone’s guess but you have to admit that these stunts by Volvo are becoming pretty impressive. The video above is pre-stunt build up, while the video below is the stunt in full……..I’m not sure if JCVD is an optional extra on your new Volvo but I’m guessing he’ll be pretty split between you and the next customer anyway!
