WANTED: Petter Fridge Motor

IMG_0621.JPG

Does anyone who where there might be a Petter fridge unit lurking in a yard or the back of a warehouse or somewhere? It’s need for a fridge trailer that is being restored and the photo above is of the ideal unit. The trailer was new in 1982, so something of that age is what’s required. Please send an email to ben@truckblog.co.uk with any info or leave a comment below

FOUND: Pigeon Perfect Atego

20140731-213229-77549286.jpg

After months and months of trying to track it down and a couple of sightings last year, my old Atego has finally been seen and confirmed. I got the message last night from George Ward, who had spotted it back in April on the M6 at Sandbach, Cheshire. Looking at the truck it hasn’t changed much, it’s got a mouldy spot light, the alloy wheels have gone and the drivers side at least has a new rear mud wing. It’s definitely carrying birds and George said that there were a number of other pigeon trucks passing at the same time. The other truks were from Hambleton Blackpool and Croston Lancashire. Does anyone know these companies? Do they run the Atego??

Email me; ben@truckblog.co.uk
Thanks George, keep up the spotting.

Mystery MAN

20140515-223523.jpg

Spotted today at Chievely Services on the M4 by @StevieBloke on Twitter. Being the driver of an MAN TGL for vehicle transporters Bestlog and also knowing I’m just a bit of a TGL fan Mr Bloke thought it’d be a good idea to share his find. Great idea! What do we know about this specialist little motor? It’s an LX cabbed TGL, not sure if it’s a sleeper or a crew cab. The chassis has stainless steel lockers mounted down the sides. The body looks to be a pretty tall sliding canvas body with drop sides. Between the body and the cab are a pair of stabiliser legs for a small Hiab crane and too finish it off it was towing a tri axle flat trailer. It must be used for installations of some sort but I’ve no idea what. Over to you lot, who knows who’s it is or what it gets up too?? Leave a comment or send me an email; ben@truckblog.co.uk

If you see some thing a bit different or something you don’t know about then send me an email and we can all play truck detectives.

Looking for my Perfect MAN!

20140422-232030.jpg

So I did an image search for MAN TGL 12.250 and ending up stumbling across this. Probably the best looking TGL I have seen. It’s proper perfection.

MAN TGL LX 12.250 – check
Alcoa 17 inch wheels – check
Frigo body – check
Side door – check
Tail lift – check
Cab air deflector – check
Long range light weight fuel tank – check
Left hand drive – check
English owner driver – …….Bugger!!

Right next step is trying to find out who’s the owner. I can’t read what’s written on the cab and I don’t recognise the colours. It is Spanish. If any of you know what the company is then please tell me ASAP.

I have no idea who’s photo it is either, but to who ever did take it, thank you.

Scania Centurions – The List

5ad493d5-19dd-4c95-b57d-9de26ff50885

Back in 1991 Scania UK launched the Centurion range of 100 trucks in order to celebrate Scania’s centenary year. The 100 special edition trucks were available to all and came in what ever guise you required. Some were 4×2, some 6×2, some Toplines, some were flat front old shapes and some were the new Streamline cab. In my opinion if your going to do a special edition truck release then they should have all been top of the range 143 500’s. It wasn’t worth letting the purchaser choose what ever spec they liked as it meant a lot of Centurions were fleet spec motors, with an out dated cab. Again in my opinion they should all have been like the one ordered by Philip Henson, the founder of Patrick International. As you can see the above is perfect spec for a special edition purchase. It is a 143 500, Topline Streamline, 6×2 tag (oh what would we all do to be able to order one those right now!), looks like a right stunner sat there in the sun. It turns out Patrick bought #84 brand new and she was a tag axle Topline Streamline a stunning looking machine. If your going to spend out on a special edition, then you should spec it as a special edition, clearly something Mr Henson and I agree on. This is an exert from Commercial Motor magazine back in March 1991;

“Scania has released details of its limited edition centenary Streamline cab, announced last week in Commercial Motor. The high-spec Centurion will have its own livery and each vehicle will have a numbered badge. Accessories will include a reversing warning buzzer, headlamp wash wipe, underbumper spot lights, roof air horns, chrome wheel trims and a CD player. An electronic trip meter and external temperature gauge are also fitted as standard”

Centurions were available with various luxury options, such as a CD player as standard, special seat covers and also a nice shiny set of Alcoa alloys. Along with the exterior bits and bobs the purchasers were also given a framed certificate like the one above that Philip Henson received when he was handed the keys to K100 PTL. I’m still yet to be told how Patricks came about owning #15 J500 DSW, which was also a 143 500. J500 DSW was the first 500hp Centurion to be delivered. It was brand new to D&S Walker from Pickering and was originally painted up in pearlescent white and silver, only to be repainted into the distinctive white and blue that the Patrick trucks were all painted up in. Now this kind of leads me on to one of my more involved projects. I’m busy trying to complete a list of the 100 original trucks, with as much details and information that I can find. I was leaked a 75% completed list of the original sales list of the trucks but the list did miss a lot of different info, for example the list didn’t tell you the model or hp figures for each of the 100. I have put all the info I have and all that I am finding on the internet into a spread sheet that I hope you can all see.

Please click the link to see my list: Scania Centurion List

If you can help the cause then please email me; ben@truckblog.co.uk or why not Tweet me on Twitter; @truckbloguk

Ideally I need photo evidence of any number claims, spec details are required also with as much info as possible. Even current or past owner info would be handy, reg numbers or what ever else you know and can share. I know that at least 1 of the Ralph Davies trucks was exported to the Middle East as it was spotted by Nick Garlick. Lets try to find the whereabouts of as many as possible. Obviously some have been exported or even smashed up, but if we know the number then I can put it on the spreadsheet and try to complete as much as we can.

Thanks to Neil Henson for sending me the photos of his father Philip and allowing me to use them on’t  blog. Also it’s worth a look at the Commercial Motor Archive if you’re in need of some info from the past.

Stop the Pigeon, Stop the Pigeon (Transporter!)

AV52 KGU - Mercedes Atego (80)

I WANT TO FIND MY ATEGO!!! I know she’s still out there but she seems to be the new Lord Lucan, she’s out there but I just can’t catch up with her! You’d think that if she is still in a half decent condition she’d be easy to spot especially in her new guise, reportedly now a pigeon carrier. How do I know? well 2 top spotters say they have seen her carrying the racing birds. The bizarre thing is that trying to find pigeon carrying companies is proving to be a little tricky. You’d think their would be facebook pages, websites and everything but it doesn’t appear so. There must be plenty of people who have seen the Atego out and about carrying our feathered friends to the start line.

Colltex Atego

The last photo of her was this one parked in a High Street doing charity work for Colltex. This was way back in 2009 so I hope she is still in good order. I guess that as she is carrying pigeons she will have had a tidy up and perhaps be a bit shiny again. What I need you lot to do is clap eyes on her and send me any pics you can get out and about, or if your that way inclined and your involved in pigeon racing circles can you tell me who now owns her. I think there are only a few firms pulling the birds, so surely it shouldn’t be too difficult to track her down. I reckon it might now be on a private plate as the DVLA vehicle search doesn’t bring up any details.

AV52 KGU - Mercedes Atego (78a)

If you spot the Atego and its safe, please take and send me a photo ben@truckblog.co.uk
If your into pigeons please tell me who owns the Atego now.

All help of course will be much appreciated and it gives you some thing to do while your driving about next week!

Half Size Scania??

20131020-155658.jpg

I saw this photo on the interbookfaceweb and had to do a double take! Looks like a half size Scania to me from South America. Someone out there knows more or perhaps you know the man in the photo?? We need to find out more, does it work? Is it built from scratch or on a small chassis of some sort? It looks awesome and just proves that Scania could make a mini artic!! All info can be emailed or left as a comment below, over to you…….
