Happy New Year bloggers! I’ll start this year as I mean to go on, with a good blog that’ll hopefully entice you all into coming back over and over again!

To start us off Steve Marsh is back….. Twas the week before Christmas and all was quiet, well that was until the Warrington MAN fired up and headed south for a pre-Christmas dash to Malta. Load detail as follows; “Load Manchester and Frankfurt airports for delivery to Luqa airport, Malta. Reload Luqa airport for Heathrow. Plus 2 collections ex Milan for Ashford and Birmingham.”   Sounds like a cracking little outing. The boat back from Malta arrived in Genoa on Wednesday 22nd December, so there was a lot to be done to beat Father Christmas back to Warrington!

Hopefully the Marsh will continue to supply some excellent blog material throughout the year, just as long as he is home long enough in between trips to email the pictures over! Having made it home for Christmas day, Steve spent New Years Eve on the Kiel to Gothenburg boat, heading for delivery to Sweden. Pictures to follow!

We are currently also exploring avenues to get some live streaming video from the little MAN on its trips across Europe so you never know by the end of this year you may be able to follow Marshy on his travels.

Lightning Freight DAF LF45

I’m not the only fan of custom 7.5 tonners. This little beauty was Lightning Freights pride and joy. From what i remember the truck featured in one of the magazine’s at some stage, running car parts from the North East out to Europe. I have done a bit of searching and i’m not to sure if Lightning Freight are still going, their website is just a plain white page. If you have any pictures of this DAF 45 in its hey day or as it may be now, please email them to me to put on here, ben@truckblog.co.uk always good to see how these trucks look after a few years. Super Swede’s

The ever moving Steve Marsh, has been to Norway twice in the last 2 weeks and returned home via Sweden and Germany. I think the size of the Swedish trucks has caught his eye. I think I’m right in saying Swedish combinations can be a max of 25.25m long, so as Marshy’s MAN is only about 9m long you can imagine the size difference. This first picture was of a Scania that pulled into a service station while Steve was on a break. Looks like a tipper or the like. The second picture is a Volvo that he managed to get along side, this shows how the little MAN is dwarfed by the big truck and trailer combo’s.

Another Mini Merc!

This is becoming quite a habit, posting pictures of Atego artic’s. Do you think there are any mini MAN artic’s out there?? In fact the next person who sends me a picture of a Mini Merc or MAN artic will win a www.truckblog.co.uk white vinyl sticker. Send your pictures in to ben@truckblog.co.uk. This latest addition to the collection is from The Pilot. Last week he popped down to Italy to pick up his latest toy, a LHD Mk 2 Transit and saw this little Merc on the way. Good spot i say. Although i think the trailer is almost short enough that you caould have just bought a rigid!

Best MAN

Well as you may have all realised i had to keep my clubcard points well and truly in my pocket at the IAA show. It would have been all to easy to take up the German’s offer of €57,000 for this little beauty. The truck was about 5m long wheel base, which is slightly to long for my needs, so i had to decline! From the Pearlescent White paint to the gloss black chassis to the perfect 17.5 inch Alcoa Ally wheels, i think i have to award this liitle fella the “Best in Show” award, yes if i was the judge then i am biased.

From all angles this is a good looking MAN, perhaps its down to the fact it has the big truck feel, with the Space Cab equivalent LX Cab. I dont know if this was specced with all the bells and whistles but i can’t have been far off, even down to the tinted side windows. The worst thing about the show was, i couldn’t read the Spec sheets for each truck. Although i can read some basic German the likes of; Zwilling kampiert – Kühlschrank – Luft Hat Sitz Suspendiert, had me stumped! (Twin Bunks – Fridge – Air Suspended Seat).

This truck was the 12 Ton, plated at 11,990 kgs, with the top of the range 250hp engine, although i think Mr German Sales Man was trying to tell me they may soon be bringing in the 290hp unit from the 15 tonners. If you look carefully you may just see the gear stick with the 4 over 4 box. You even get a big truck gearbox in the little truck! Although there is an automatic option.

This must have been a top spec truck as it goes as i’ve just realised the passenger seat was Luft Hat Sitz Suspendiert too. The more i think about it the more i should have said yes! The interiour is spacious and well layed out. There is no feeling of being in a small cab. At 6ft 1 i was plenty of room for me to stand in the passenger foot well, as there is no locker above the windscreen on this side of the cab. There are 2 other lockers above the windscreen, one above the driver and one in the centre, either one big enough for a small microwave. The fridge is a good size and looks like the same size one found in larger MAN’s. I think double manning in this cab would be fine, even if your not of Eastern European descent.

I was also pleased to finally see the back of those horrible rear lights MAN trucks have been fitted with for the last few years, you know the ones, with the slightlyblue and red lens. Back to proper rear lights is best. You can also see below the truck is fitted with an easily adjustable an roof deflector.

Atego Road Trip

Once again the international Nick Garlick has been tramping around Europe for the last 2 weeks. I have to say he has clocked up an impressive list of delivery and collection points on this trip. He shiped out of Harwich on Sunday 19/09/10 and is now getting toward the end of his trip. Heres the route; Ship Harwich to Holland – 9 Deliveries & Collections Germany – Strasbourg (F) – Ulm (D) – Brenner Pass – Bologna (I) – Milan (I) – Turin (I) – Montpellier (F) – Carmarg (F) – Perpignan (F) – Zaragoza (E) – 2 x Valencia (E) – Seville (E) – Moncao (North Portugal) – Angers (F) – Ship Caen to Portsmouth – Home. A tough old job that European Driving lark!!

Weekended in Gloomy Italy!!

2 weekends ago now, Steve Marsh was once again weekended in Italy. Parked up near Ravenna on the North East Coast waiting for a Monday morning tip with a hazardous cargo. Once tipped on Monday Marshy took a lovely drive up through the Alps into Swiz and on into southern Germany for reload number 1 and then onto Holland for collection number 2 and back to the UK for a weekend delivery that didn’t quite go to plan! Steve sent me these 2 piccies and said they aren’t blog worthy, but i have to disagree, how can a couple of truck pictures not be worthy on the only truckblog that matters!! By the way if you type “truck blog” into Google what is the number 1 search result………..yes www.truckblog.co.uk

WARNING: Activ Pervert!

Gently wandering up the A12 this morning on my way to work when i came across an Activ Cars truck (No. 092) who’d obviously come off the boat in Harwich this morning. So i reached for my camera but i them remembered it ran out of battery yesterday, i should surely be stripped of my Truck Perv title!! So i tried a couple on the iphone – Rubbish. To redeem myself when i came off the A14 at Haughley i pleaded with my camera to take one last shot. As i was about to press the shutter the battery symbol flicked on and the camera flicked so i had no idea if it had worked, see the photo in question below.

Activ Artic Atego’s

After the pictures Kindle 530 from www.trucknetuk.com sent me of the little Atego artic at Killingholme, click here, i thought i’d email Activ Cars to see if they wanted to send me any more pictures.
My new best mate at Activ, Malte Horneburg, sent me 3 pictures of what was in his yard on Friday morning, which you can see below. It turns out the trailer Kindle530 spotted was only an 11m trailer but the majority of Activ’s trailer’s are 13.6m long but still with a single axle. I can’t say i fancy one on a windy day though, how ever smart they are! Of course I’d happily drive one given the oppotunity.
