Great Day at the IAA, Hanover

As a few of you may have remembered i went to the IAA show at Hanover yesterday. Great day. There is so much to see it’s incredible. I actually woke up this morning thinking i had walked a marathon yesterday! Hall after hall of Trucks, Buses, Vans, Trailers and parts, just amazing how much was there really. Of course the most popular stands were the Scania stand with the very impressive and beautiful R730 4×2 Topline, pretty stunning even though its just the power rating badge that was different to the R500 next to it, but no one was queueing to sit in that!! The MAN stand (Hall) was mobbed all day, but you had to know your German to understand why there were alot of people crowding round the stage listening to some Herbert with the microphone. There are loads of pictures and as you may have guessed a certain 12 ton truck features quite heavily so just skip through those! Click here for all 160 pictures.
Here are just a few pics to get you started, there will be plenty more to follow in the next few days and weeks.

Bloody Old Tilts!!

I don’t know what it is about tilts but i always used to like them. Yes i am odd. Perhaps it was that they look better than other trailers? Perhaps it made me feel like an old 70’s International driver? perhaps it was the full body work out when stripping them down? or was it just that they are a dying breed?? Who knows but they always made for a good picture. These one’s were taken in the early hours one Saturday morning in Oostende back in 2005. Dear old Claudia (The Actros!) taking a breather before the run home for lunch! Good times.

Barry Read International Transport

Who remembers this outfit? I seem to remember them being in lots of magazines and seemingly being quite a high profile haulier. Again correct me if i’m wrong but i think they may have done lots of crusie ship supply round Europe and the like. This picture was found in the Wilson archive. I think the truck was still owned by Barry Read and he has kept it even though he has packed up. Its a pitty all the trucks nowadays seem to be white with a few stickers as a livery, where as this is lovely hand sign written, a thing of beauty!! Bring back traditional sign writing! If you have any other pictures of Barry Read’s fine motors email me at ben@truckblog.co.uk

Weekended in Gloomy Italy!!

2 weekends ago now, Steve Marsh was once again weekended in Italy. Parked up near Ravenna on the North East Coast waiting for a Monday morning tip with a hazardous cargo. Once tipped on Monday Marshy took a lovely drive up through the Alps into Swiz and on into southern Germany for reload number 1 and then onto Holland for collection number 2 and back to the UK for a weekend delivery that didn’t quite go to plan! Steve sent me these 2 piccies and said they aren’t blog worthy, but i have to disagree, how can a couple of truck pictures not be worthy on the only truckblog that matters!! By the way if you type “truck blog” into Google what is the number 1 search result………..yes www.truckblog.co.uk

WARNING: Activ Pervert!

Gently wandering up the A12 this morning on my way to work when i came across an Activ Cars truck (No. 092) who’d obviously come off the boat in Harwich this morning. So i reached for my camera but i them remembered it ran out of battery yesterday, i should surely be stripped of my Truck Perv title!! So i tried a couple on the iphone – Rubbish. To redeem myself when i came off the A14 at Haughley i pleaded with my camera to take one last shot. As i was about to press the shutter the battery symbol flicked on and the camera flicked so i had no idea if it had worked, see the photo in question below.

Whats your Cargo Driver?

A year or so ago a driver I know spotted this unusual looking Ford Cargo parked up for the night at Southampton Docks. It looks like it was waiting for a trailer. I can’t see the tax or O’license in the pic but if you look at the 2nd photo there is a Ford Motor Company Volvo parked in front. They both have special number plates so must have a bit more of a  purpose than your average parts trucks. Does any one have any ideas on what this truck is used for and what market this unit is usually sold too? South America perhaps?? Email me at ben@truckblog.co.uk or leave a comment at the bottom.

Where do you Read Yours??

I’ve been meaning to post this one. A week or two after The Long Haul Pioneers was released my good friend and expert pilot sent me this photo. His comment being; “Unusual places to read THE book – No1. 39,000 feet on the way to Marrakesh.” How about that then Ashley?? Do you know of a higher place to read the book than that?? Whats more worrying, The Pilot is reading a book while flying or the fact he is taking a picture of the deed on his phone while flying??!! Although if you look hard enough the book is placed on the list of things to do after take off! If you want a copy of the book, then go to Old Pond Publishings website, although they are currently out of stock. Great Picture, if you have evidence of a better place to read the book the email me, ben@truckblog.co.uk
