The Only Non Truck Post

As it was quite impressive, i thought i would post a quick couple of pictures of a ship! Not just any ship this was the launch of Stena Line’s newest ship, Britannica, sailing on the ever popular Harwich to Hoek route. We were invited down there as one of Stena’s regular freight customers. After speeches, fireworks, bottle smashing and a delicious 3 course lunch we explored the boat. Now i know why so many of our drivers are happy to get the Hoek boat over all the other North Sea routes. The new ship has space for 1200 passengers, is 240m long, has 538 cabins and has 5.5km of lane’s for vehicles and most importamtly a separate bar and restaurant for Truckers!!

Unique Eddie Stobart Livery Unveiled

Iconic transport and logistics firm, Eddie Stobart, has developed a unique livery on one of its fleet’s trailers to raise awareness about the importance of checking tyres. The trailer design has been developed in conjunction with Cumbria Constabulary and TyreSafe, in support of this October’s tyre safety month and will be used to encourage drivers to make sure their tyres are safe and legal.
“With their distinctive visual appearance, Eddie Stobart lorries are an instantly recognisable sight on our roads,” comments Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “The alternative design and powerful message will be no less striking and one that we hope will help to prevent many unnecessary accidents and injuries. I’m sure that many Eddie Stobart spotters up and down the country will be keeping an eye out for this unique vehicle.”
The special liveried vehicle can be spotted during October throughout Cumbria. As well as being placed at key strategic roadside locations, the vehicle will be used to support Cumbria police who will be conducting a month of roadside checks, targeting motorists who are driving on illegal tyres.
“Tyre safety month is an important campaign and I would like to thank Eddie Stobart’s for their generosity and support,” comments PC Shaun McKeown, forensic vehicle examiner for Cumbria Police Collision Investigation Unit. “Checking your tyres is quick and easy, and incredibly important as we approach the wettest months of the year. I’ve been called to far too many incidents that could have been prevented if drivers had taken this simple precaution. If you don’t know what to look for, then I would urge you to visit one of the many tyre retailers or garages that are offering free tyre safety checks as part of tyre safety month.”

SCOOP!! Mercedes Actros Giga-Space

This is a good one people, a very reliable source who works as an employee for Mercedes Benz some where in Europe slipped me the secret info. He is so worried he will get into trouble for leaking the new name, he didn’t even want me to say which country he is from! There is lots of chit chat about the new Mercedes truck range, but i have been told the new big cab will be called the “Giga-Space” instead of the current “Mega-Space”. The idea is that the new cab will have more space inside than DAF’s Super Space Cab. I wouldn’t surprised if the new Giga Space is inspired or even has some of the ideas from the SPACE MAX Concept truck you can see here, after all you can’t get much bigger than this!

New Trailers for Kersey Freight

My good friend Dave Crawford at Kersey Freight, sent me these pictures of his first 2 new trailers in a batch of 6. The 13.6m Boxvans were supplied by Matt Kerrison at SDC Trailers. The new trailers will be working mainly on daily shuttles to Paris and will be available to our clients for reloads to the UK. The trailers offer excellent security for high value shipments and will all be pulled on a driver accompanied basis. There are also 2 DAF’s going on the road later this month, so hopefully i’ll post some pictures of them when they arrive.
