Barry Read International Transport

Who remembers this outfit? I seem to remember them being in lots of magazines and seemingly being quite a high profile haulier. Again correct me if i’m wrong but i think they may have done lots of crusie ship supply round Europe and the like. This picture was found in the Wilson archive. I think the truck was still owned by Barry Read and he has kept it even though he has packed up. Its a pitty all the trucks nowadays seem to be white with a few stickers as a livery, where as this is lovely hand sign written, a thing of beauty!! Bring back traditional sign writing! If you have any other pictures of Barry Read’s fine motors email me at ben@truckblog.co.uk

Bedford to Qatar

Here is another old classic heading off for a new life in the Middle East. Wilsons collected this little thing and took it to Felixstowe for shipping out to Qatar. It seems there are a lot of old commercials heading out that way, so i quizzed the driver if he knew why it was going out to the M/E. This is the story; “Apparently some Sheik or another has a large picture on his wall of an oil well his family have owned for donkey’s years. He now wants to recreate a living version of the picture, so is buying up all the vehicles in the picture and shipping then out to the oil well.” So now you know! A great story and sounds perfectly plausable, but then again any thing seems plausable to when Oil Barons are involved. Great little truck though and its been around a bit. According to the paperwork it was fully rebuilt and restored in 1996 in Melbourne, Australia.

Mighty Antar

How about this then, Wilsons had to load this old beauty in Horncastle this week to deliver to Southampton. Why? Because it is being shipped out to Doha, Qatar for the State National Day Celebrations. Yea, exactly. I just hope it comes back in one piece and not put to work for another 20 years, like most commercials heading East.

ANTAR TO Qatar

The Long Haul Pioneers by Ashley Coghill

On the way to work this morning, i stoppped off at Old Pond Publishing in Ipswich to collect my copy’s (No. 149 & 150) of the newly released book by Ashley Coghill, The Long Haul Pioneers. Unfortunatly i was only able to flick through a couple of pages, but the few pictures i saw look priceless. If you have any interest in Middle East Trucking its got to be worth  buying a copy. I’ll let you know how i get on when i get to look through it properly. To order your copy head to Old Pond Publishing’s site and get ordering, click here to go the the right page.

Old Bedford at Eden

While wandering around the tropical Dome at the Eden Project, i was making my way through the Sugar Cane, when i stumbled across this old dog. Brightly coloured and looking like she was loading another load of cane, although i’m not entirley sure the constant wet and humid air will do much for preserving the old girl! Judging by the other people taking pictures of the truck mine wasn’t the only eye caught by the bright colours!!

EGV Off to Foreign Lands Again

Once more EGV 565T is heading off the Europe. Last night she set sail from Felixstowe to Vlaardingen, NL. Delivering 20Ton to Antwerp this morning, reloading Maasluis, NL this afternoon, then off to Paris-ish for an Oldtimer show this weekend. Looked good she did in some rare summer sun! Do you know of any working trucks that are 30 years old? If so email me at truckblog@hotmail.co.uk or post a comment below.
