The Long Haul Pioneers by Ashley Coghill

On the way to work this morning, i stoppped off at Old Pond Publishing in Ipswich to collect my copy’s (No. 149 & 150) of the newly released book by Ashley Coghill, The Long Haul Pioneers. Unfortunatly i was only able to flick through a couple of pages, but the few pictures i saw look priceless. If you have any interest in Middle East Trucking its got to be worth  buying a copy. I’ll let you know how i get on when i get to look through it properly. To order your copy head to Old Pond Publishing’s site and get ordering, click here to go the the right page.

The Front End

Surprised not to see a Thumping great V8 on the front??? This is heading down to Doha as a seller. East West is the name of Graham Ball`s company in Doha. The outfit is going down to join his fleet. The good news is the trailer will still be used around the Middle East so i may gain some new viewers!!

SCOOP!! Astran Tekno Model

This is a bit of a SCOOP for truckblog. This model has only been advertised on the Tekno website and through a small email list from Kevin at Astran.

Tekno are building the model and there are only 350 being built, with Tekno keeping 150 for their model clubs. When TEKNO put it on their web page, it sold out in 12 hours becoming their quickest seller EVER!!!! This is quite surprising considering the flash modern stuff they do. It just goes to prove that Astran has a massive following. The model has been spec`ed up by Mr Astran himself, Ashley Coghill, so you can be sure of its authenticity!! It was decided that as Astran never ran any 140 Scania`s that were in the best red/yellow sign written livery, we have made the model as a 111.

The model will become collectors’ items due to the rareness and will only appreciate in value, delivery wil hopefully be in July with a guide price of £150.00 per model, which will come with a numbered certificate and a picture of the original truck.

If you are interested in one of these highly highly collectable models, in 1/50 scale, then be quick to get your name on the list. Email kevin@astran-cargo.com and make sure you mention truckblog when you do.

SPOTTED! Astran in Colchester

Astran Colchester 21.12.09

Any way i came down the slip road for the second time and i saw in my mirror some thing that had that look of some thing a little different. I hung back as a sado truck spotter type would, and as he came passed the red and yellow trailer gave it away, then the stickers on the back gave it away. It did look smart so i pulled out behind and followed him into Colchester and all the way up to the hospital, he carried on to Boxted and i turned into the H A&E. I was thinking how different the M/E trucks are compared to the old days. I came to the conclusion that really there isn’t a great difference at all. They are still in general Top of the range trucks, Super space cabs, XL Globetrotters, V8 Scania’s unless they are sellers. The trailers are still well equiped with tool boxes, beer kegs with water in (really) and other side lockers. Some trucks still have arabic writing and stickers. But all in all they still have that look, you know what i mean. My only thought was, i think the old 70’s trucks would be able to cope with the tarmac roads that run all the way across the desert, but i’m not so confident todays trucks with all their computers would be able to cope with running across the desert sands each trip like 141’s and F89’s did.

Astran Update

Had a quick chat with the main man Kevin at Astran yesterday. He says they are still keeping busy. Yesterday they had 2 x Trucks loading in Seville for Qatar, 2 x Trucks in Venice loading for Qatar and 1 x Truck in Holland loading for Saudi.  Click Here to go to the new look webpage. While your there you better put your name down on the mailing list to keep up to date with all the goings on.
