DYCE EXTENDABLES – New From Search Impex & WSI

IMG_5164

Another new limited edition that you’ll all be keen to get your grubby mits on. A nice tidy Volvo from Dyce Carriers fleet, with some rather flashy images on the cab. Have a read of the press release as there’s no point in me trying to re-type it in my own words!!

Customised promotional model vehicle specialists, Search Impex, are pleased to announce the release of a 1:50 scale Volvo FH13 Globetrotter XL (6×2) with 3 axle, extendable trailer, customised in the unique livery of Aberdeen based operator Dyce Carriers Ltd. The model has been produced exclusively for Search Impex by WSI Collectibles and is a certificated Limited Edition (205 pieces).

With two depots in Scotland (Aberdeen & Cowdenbeath) and one in England (Poole), Dyce Carriers has come a long way from its humble beginnings back in 1973 when, joint founders, David & Jean Moir started the Company with a great deal of ambition and a Morris Minor van. Today’s operation runs a fleet in excess of 50 commercial vehicles (a mix of Volvo, DAF, Mercedes & Iveco units ) and a variety of trailers, including extendables, flats, curtains and stepframes. The business specialises in serving the transport needs of oil and gas service providers as well as local engineering companies and loads can vary from small, urgent consignments, through to groupage, full loads and even helicopters. Operating throughout the UK and with some work in mainland Europe, Dyce Carriers’ trucks will already be a familiar sight to many truck collectors and enthusiasts.

Models, available from Search Impex, are priced at £143 each (including UK delivery & VAT). For details of availability of this and other models, collectors can visit the Search Impex website at www.search-impex.co.uk or call them on 01332 873 555.

Happy Christmas To Me!!

Tekno Essex International Scania 141

Yes I treated myself to a little piece of Essex for Christmas. Well being an Essex boy for 30 of my 32 years I feel I am an honoury member! A few months back Ben Lord of Speedbird Promotions (the UK arm of Dutch model experts Tekno) sent out the details of impending release of an Essex International Scania 141, along with the related trucks of Kerbey Motors, a Scania R580 which is available now and a Scania 143 Streamline which is due for release in February. Either contact Kerbey Motors or Speedbird / Tekno UK and treat yourself.

Tekno Essex International Scania 141

This truck is based on VVW 909S, a Scania 141, restored and put on the show circuit by Michael Lacey and his uncle Bim Mountain. Michael’s father used to work for Essex back in the day. The model itself is a good replica, as you’d obviously expect, of the real truck, down to the smallest details. There is even a Michelin Man and a European Duck to stick on the roof and a nice acrylic blue sunvisor! If you would like one of these models, there are only a few left, so be quick. Get onto the Speedbird Promotions website and get it ordered!!

Tekno Essex International Scania 141

As for my model (certificate number 70) it will be joing my Tekno Astran 111 and at some point there will be a Middle East reunion on my kitchen side, if at the time i’m home alone I may even use my son’s sand pit, just for authenticity reason’s of course!! Below are the Tekno drawings for your enjoyment.

Just as a side note, if anyone has any Essex International Stories or photo’s they want to share, then please get emailing the blog; ben@truckblog.co.uk

Mackirdy Haulage - Latest 1:50 scale model release from Search Impex

Based on the Isle of Bute, the origins of John Mackirdy Haulage can be traced back a staggering 140 years of continuous family ownership. Born in 1835, founder, John Mackirdy’s first real foray into transport involved the use of horses and carts to shift construction materials following the family’s decision to move out of milling and into building. Word spread about the new “carting firm” and additional work soon came in the form of requests to collect goods and supplies from the ferry berthing point in Rothesay for distribution and delivery around the island. Four generations of the Mackirdys later and with the business still being family owned and run, a Mackirdy Haulage model ought surely to feature in many an enthusiast’s collection!

Models, available from Search Impex, are priced at £137 each (including UK delivery & VAT). For details of availability of this and other models, collectors can visit the Search Impex website at www.search-impex.co.uk or call them on 01332 873555.

As you can see the tractor unit is as per the real life version, down to every detail and I mean every detail, including all stickers!! A single air horn, correctly mounted flashing beacons, wheels are painted right, GB sticker on one side of the rear chassis cross member, the livery is spot on and there is even a satelite dome on the roof. The trailer is the same as one of Wilson’s fairly standard Nooteboom 3 axle step frame trailers. It was discussed about having an original 2 axle step frame as the truck would have had when it was new back in 1979, but WSI couldn’t provide such a trailer without designing a totally new one. It certainly looks the part.
The models will be for sale at £138.00 from Search Impex and £144 from HC Wilson, plus the appropriate postage and packing costs. If you want to but from Wilson’s direct you will be encouraged to collect the model in person. This is a cracking model and I look forward to seeing the 1st one in the flesh at work tomorrow, don’t forget if your keen on buying your other half a great and different anniversary gift, then email me, ben@hcwilsontransport.com.

HC Wilson 1/50 Scale Model Update

For those of you who may be waiting for the WSI model of Wilson’s 141 and trailer, i have news, hot off the press (not a scoop!).  The following order update has been received today from the man at Search Impex;  “At the moment, the models are scheduled to ship ex-China at the end of May – so delivery should be around the end of June. They are a bit delayed because it transpires that WSI forgot to tool up for mirror sets for RHD units – so they are busy sorting this now!”

So there you go if you have patiently been saving your pocket money you now know how much longer you have to wait. If you are interested in buying one of these limited edition models, complete with certificate, then email me at work, ben@hcwilsontransport.co.uk and i’ll keep you posted on progress and let you know when they have arrived. They are likely to retail some where around the £150 mark.

Model Polizei

As all of you international drivers know the German Polizei are very keen to introduce themselves to you. Even in small scale it seems lorry drivers have no escape from the Polizei. These pics were taken by the Roving Reporter whilst working hard in Germany last week (well that’s what he told his lovely wife!). During a few hours off he made the trip to Miniatur-Wunderland in Hamburg. The place is the world’s largest HO Scale / 1/87 scale Layout in the world. From railways, to waterways to carnivals and roadways there is a bit of every thing to look at. Most interestingly are the road scenes obviously.
Some of the trucks actually move around the layout as you can see in the pics. The Wagon & Drag in the top pic is well loaded heading up the hill as you can see, only to get to the top of the hill and come to a standstill where 2 of the German fuzz have pulled over a car transporter, probably just to look at the cars on the load!! Typical but oh so realistic. Like i say its not all trucks but if your ever in Hamburg with a spare couple of hours its surely worth a visit, i want to go! So many models doing all sorts of things, lots of Wiking and Herpa models were used and all to great effect. Lets just hope some where there are some Coppers pulling over an Eastern European with a dodgy truck and no tacho records!!
