Centurions – Missing in Action….

Retro Truck Show 2013 (19)

A little while back the owner of #69 and the owner of #27 and myself (#35 or #89 or #90!) had an early morning get together at the Gathering of the Griffin for a full sit down update on where we are with tracking all 100 original Scania Centurions on, The Centurion List. Now the list itself is getting better and better and the information on all the trucks is growing all the time especially with things like the Scania Centurion trucks page on Faceache. Bearing in mind that I for one was a little jaded, the list run through took a couple of hours, although this could have been due to Neil Jarrold’s interruptions I’m not sure, anyway I will put up the updated list when I can remember how to publish it on here!

Having gone through the list we then got onto what could possible described as “the rumours” bit. A load of info we have but all pretty inconclusive so the best thing is to share it with you and hopefully once again you can fill in some of the blanks and knock some of the useless bits on the head.

Missing Centurions

Not sure how well you can see that but I hope you can. The Peter Roff truck is a very interesting case of Chinese whispers. We have a good idea of the story behind it but we would very much like to hear it from one of you that perhaps knew the Roff fleet or even drove for him at the time. The rest of the lines on the table (not those type!) are a rumour or unsubstantiated fact each, i.e. each line should refer to one truck. Please leave your feedback below as a comment or email me; ben@truckblog.co.uk. I think the Millar Transport truck MDZ 8140 is not a Centurion. I had a fairly good font of Irish knowledge say it wasn’t on the fleet and a second person commented that reg was on a BMW?! All this info you are giving will hopefully end up in a book all about the 100, so anything you can contribute is for the greater good of 3 series Scania lovers, any genuine info on any of the 100 trucks could be of use for that matter At some point I will need to gather high quality photos of each truck, now that will be a challenge!

  3. I’m pretty sure Garbutt’s is the one that Stuart McMurchy has had for years, it’s a 143 450. pretty sure they will be at Truckfest so you could quiz them on it. Sorry it’s not new info! I think There was also at least one subby for Cavewood at Lutterworth who had a Centurion, not much help but might lead somewhere

  5. Hi, I found out some more on my dads centurion, it was k776 nkd or nkb
    It came from haydock commercials.
    It was a 143 450 not a streamline.
I do have a picture of the certificate.
And his firm was L&D international transport.
I’m not sure how to post a pic on here, so I’ll email it to you Ben.
He is also trying to dig out a picture of it but he has about 3000 pics to sort thru, and we are talking old style kodak jobs 🙂

  9. I know centurion no99 is a streamline 113 , 360 and is now out in Moldova , it was sold for £6k 10 years ago, a black 6×2 mid lift that originally came from around Glasgow and is still earning it’s living every day as of 2 months ago!!! & my friend who sold it offered the guy who drives it £10k to buy it back & find him a suitable replacement but the owner turned him down and his words were ” I like the ttuck I have!!” …….

      • I don’t have any pics of it but I’m friends with the guy who sold it and regularly exports trucks out there so I could see if he has any, I also used to drive a 450 streamline for over 3 years that is badged as a centurion with no 62 on it!! And has a 500 baffle on the grill but I know it’s not an original centurion as its on a “p” plate

  10. Mdz8140 supposedly ex Millar transport is in our workshop in London, restored, badge no 89 on it, it’s a 6×2 tag, top line streamline, 10 speed box, a 420 not a 450, it has the original no 89 badge but only a standard front sun visor, not the centurion stickered one, the air horns are after market not the original ones, that were fitted properly into the roof on the 3 series, no air conditioning either, was this a left hooker from new? as it has got an original left hand drive cab on it now but has been converted to rhd before we got it, maybe they sourced a good cab that wasn’t rotten from Spain or Italy many years ago?

    • Great info Neil. Who’s the owner/company that has the workshop? Can you email me some photos please? Also is someone able to take it to the Retro Truck Show at Gaydon on September for the Centurion reunion??
